Mahoney is now a "1-to-1" technology school. Every student and teacher has a modern personal computing device to use for teaching and learning each day. 7th and 8th graders have had MLTI laptops for the past 9 years. And this fall, 6th graders joined the 1-to-1 group. The 3-Teacher Team students have Macbooks during the day, while the 2-Teacher Team students have iPads. Teachers now know that every student can always get to online learning sites and resources for research as well as creative learning tools for making products to demonstrate and reinforce learning.
So students, what's your favorite program, website or app for learning? Leave your comment below. (All comments are moderated for content.)

8th Grade Boys vs Staff Infections!
In front of a crowd of lots, the Mahoney 8th Grade Boys basketball team took on the talented teachers to raise money for the grade 8 trip to Point Sebago in June. It was a great game with the Staff Infections prevailing by a narrow margin. More importantly, over $100 was raised for the trip and everyone had a lot of fun.
Were you there? What was the best part of the game?

Movie Making Contest - Win an iPod Nano?
Mahoney Movie Makers: Here's a contest for you!
The MLTI (Maine Learning Technology Initiative), the people who bring us our MacBook laptops, invites everyone to make a short movie on a Challenge Topic. The winning high school and middle school teams win iPod Nanos for each team member (up to four students per team)and $500 for their school to start making their idea work.
Here's the latest Challenge
"Reading. What should happen in your school (or is already happening in your school and should be shared across the state) to make sure all members of your school community are active and effective readers? What would it take so that everyone, when asked, "Are you a reader?" would say, "Of course I am..."
Create a movie of less than two minutes addressing the Challenge, submit it, and see if you are a winner.
Mahoney has some AWESOME movie makers! Get your friends together, borrow a Flip from the library, and get into iMovie. Mr. Koelker will help you with all the details.
